Consultant to Binnie Black & Veatch for the construction of shafts and tunnels for the Bombay (Mumbai) Sewerage Scheme. Advice on rock support systems and techniques for all outfall tunnelling and shafts at Worli and Bandra. Advice on widening the twin 35m low pressure shafts at Bandra Influent station, with a 3m rock wall seperation and refurbishment of the adjoining supply tunnels at Bandra.

PAKISTAN

Consultant to Binnie Black & Veatch/Swabi scarp Consultants for rock tunnel construction in the Swabi Scarp Irrigation project. Advice on tunnel design and construction methodology for 3.5km rock tunnel and the widening of seven existing tunnels and rock stability of access roads.

UK

Investigation assessment and rock mass characterisation, design of (cut and embankment) soil and rock slopes, tunnel support, rock reinforcement systems for alternatives of a major rock cutting or a shallow tunnelling option adjacent and beneath the M1 and M62 motorways. On behalf of Pell Frischmann Consultants and the Department of Transport. Site conditions included glacial soils and sandstone rock.

INDIA & UK

Report on the rock mass modelling and rock mass characterisation. Rocks varied from very strong basalt and weak volcanic teff. Design of rock reinforcement systems and the assessment of excavation, rock deformations and rock loadings. Mathematical modelling. Assessment of rock support interaction for precast concrete linings in the two sewerage tunnels and shafts. for Binnie and Partners and World Bank.

UK

Group manager and acting research engineer with the Rock Mechanics Research Group of Imperial College on two EEC sponsored projects. Hark rock cutting in research, in collaboration with L'Ecole des Mines, Paris, using fully instrumented third scale laboratory TBM and lathe rock cutting apparatus. Expert systems and CAD development in metalliferous mining layouts on Sun work stations. Software development and analysis of TBM performance monitoring in the TML Channel Tunnel Works.

BELGIUM

Oosterschelde Tunnel investigation, rotary drilling, PMT, CPT, geophysical well-logging and correlations of the determined in-situ density results with the Delft soil mechanics in-situ density probe. Ground conditions included soft marine clays and over-consolidated clays.
